I have a friend that has been diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia, he lived on a ammunition dump in Hiroshima after World War II and spent many hours alone. His main symptom is Paranoia, he thinks people are watching him, He thinks that people do things just to let him know they are watching him, he hears things such as people cocking shot guns. He makes himself believe that everyone around him are his enemies, out to hurt him, or take his life. The treatment he received included 19 shock treatments and they put him on haloperidol (Haldol), but he would not take it like he was suppose to because he felt like the doctor was out to get him.
In chapter 12 on page 480 I learned about schizophrenia and that it is one of the most serious and disabling of all mental disorders. On page 485, it talks about personality disorders such as paranoia, which my friend also has. Then there is the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) that can be found on page 525 in our book,in which convulsions are induced.
