The Id, Ego, and Superego

In the Rock Hill herald on October 6th, 2008, in an article, I read about this husband who said that women were always attracted to him and are always flirting or coming on to him and he didn't know why. He said that he had always been faithful to his wife, dispite the temptations . He stated that he and his wife were going through a rough time in their marriage and that while this was going on he and another woman became really close but nothing sexually has happened, but even though he didn't cross the line to adultery, he was feeling enourmous guilt about the closesness he felt with this other woman. His delima was whether to tell his wife about this other woman or not.

In Chapter 11 it tells about the Id, Ego and Superego and this article is in relation to that. The ID was the man's uncounscious wanting to be close to the other woman, it didn't matter the consequences of his actions, He wanted it and thats all that mattered at the time, the Superego is his conscious telling him he shouldn't have been close with the other woman and is now making him feel guilt for his actions, and the Ego is what has him trying to decide whether to tell his wife about the other woman, because the Ego is what tries to satisfy both the ID and the Superego. In my opinion the ID was in control in the beginning and now the super ego and ego are in control
